Hyperacidity And Ayurveda Hyperacidity simply means an increased level of acid in the stomach. The stomach secretes Hydrochloric Acid, a digestive juice that breaks down food particles into their smallest form to aid digestion. When there is an excessive amount of hydrochloric acid in the stomach, the condition is known as Hyperacidity. Causes Of hyperactivity The main cause of hyperacidity is the aggravation of Pitta Dosha in the body. Pitta is an Ayurvedic humor that symbolizes heat or fire. There are many causes for the aggravation of Pitta, main among them are: Eating foods that do not suit the constitution or foods that should not be taken together (milk and fish, milk and salt), excessively sour or spicy foods and liquids, white flour products and white sugar products, smoking and excessive consumption of tea, coffee and alcohol, eating in a state of indigestion, suppressing urges of urination and stool, sleeping in the daytime after meals, staying awake late into the night, excessive stress, anger and hunger, excessive exposure to sun and heat and gastro-duodenal ulcer. Symptoms Stiffness in the stomach Lack of appetite Constipation Indigestion Sour belching Actual vomiting Feeling of restlessness Ayurvedic Hyperacidity Treatment Hyperacidity is known as Amlapitta in Ayurveda (Amla means sour and Pitta means heat). Hyperacidity therefore is a condition characterized by an increase of sourness and heat in the body. The aggravated Pitta impairs the digestive fire, leading to improper digestion of food and production of ama (toxins). This ama gets accumulated in the digestive channels and causes Hyperacidity. The Ayurvedic treatment of Hyperacidity is focused on pacifying the aggravated Pitta Dosha. Cleansing herbs are also administered to eliminate toxins from the body and cleanse the channels. This automatically enhances the digestive fire, leading to better digestion.
Virechanam Virechana therapy is a type of Panchakarma treatment. Here, person is made to undergo controlled purgation for a specific amount of time. It is designed to flush out body toxins. Liver detox, colon detox etc. procedures that are quite famous now-a-days are derivatives of Virechana therapy.Purpose of Virechana- Virechana treatment is targeted to expel increased Pitta Dosha out of the body. When Pitta dosha gets increased, it causes certain types of diseases – such as abscess, liver disorders, gastritis etc. If the extent of Pitta increase is less, then oral medicines can be given to suppress it. But if it has increased to a large extent and if it has moved from its natural place to other places, then it needs to be expelled out of the body. By expelling it out, the disease gets cured, often completely. Since Pitta is situated at the level of intestines, expelling it from the anal route is very easy. Hence, Virechana treatment is designed. To expel it out, first the Pitta Dosha needs to be forcefully brought from the extremities and different organs into the intestines, and then purgation is induced, to expel it out completely. Effect on Tridosha: Virechan treatment is indicated in High Pitta conditions – like skin disorders, blisters, abscess, liver disorders etc. Pitta associated with Kapha, where Pitta is the dominant Dosha, as in certain types of vomiting, acid peptic disorders etc. Pitta associated with Vata, as in case of gout.
Lichen planus and ayurveda This condition is considered as a variety of Kushta(skin disease) resulted from dooshi visha or accumulated toxins. Regular exposure to unwholesome food, activities, chemicals and other toxins gradually affect proper functioning of digestive fire or Agni. Result of impaired digestion is the production of Ama or partly digested food. This achieves toxic nature and accumulates in the body. Toxic Ama is absorbed and transported through subtle channels of body or Srothas. After getting accumulated in some part of the body it manifest in to symptoms when favorable factors are available. Toxins get covering by Kapha and thus it can resist from body mechanisms of digestion or excretion. In the case of lichen planus , Ama get deposited in the skin or mucous membrane .Gradually this affect Vatha, Pitha and Kapha components of skin and gradually manifest in to symptoms. Even though all the three Doshas involve in the pathogenesis, Pitha and Kapha dominate in Lichen planus. Due to the treatments or other factors, this disease may subside for some time. Practice of unwholesome food, activities etc will again trigger pathogenesis and finally resulting in the new episode of the disease. Ayurvedic management Treatment mainly aims purification of the body, achieving healthy digestive fire, cure of symptoms remaining and rejuvenation of body. 1. To detoxify the system by Sodhana or Panchakarma procedures. After assessing signs and symptoms, health and digestive power of the patient either Vamana (medicated vomiting) or Virechana (medicated purgation) or both may be given. Selection of formulation for both the procedures is made only after careful evaluation. Ayurveda suggest oral administration of medicated ghee or oil only in certain skin diseases before purification procedures .Sweating also is not required in most of the cases. 2. To correct functioning of Agni and thus to prevent further generation of Ama . Progress of the disease and the purification procedures weakens Agni or digestive fire. Gradual use of light to digest food along with medicines will be required to regain normal power of Agni. 3. To pacify the symptoms (Samana oushadhas or medicines of alleviation) Gargling (Kabala) or washing (dhara) with suitable herbal decoction is useful in appropriate conditions. Internal administration of herbal decoctions, pills, arishtas (preparations with self-generated alcohol), and medicines for external application are also used here. 4. Rasayana or Rejuvenating medicines After all treatment procedures, body tissues or dhatus require rejuvenation. Rejuvenating medicines specifically useful to skin is used here. These medicines provide strong immunity power to prevent further vitiation of Dosha and dhatus and maintain health.
Varicose veins are gnarled, enlarged veins. Any vein may become varicose, but the veins most commonly affected are those in your legs and feet. That's because standing and walking upright increases the pressure in the veins of your lower body. For many people, varicose veins and spider veins — a common, mild variation of varicose veins — are simply a cosmetic concern. For other people, varicose veins can cause aching pain and discomfort. Sometimes varicose veins lead to more-serious problems. Varicose veins may also signal a higher risk of other circulatory problems. Treatment may involve self-care measures or procedures by your doctor to close or remove veins. According to ayurveda varicose veins are caused due to Rakta dhatu dusti, so raktamokshana is the main line of treatment in treating varicose veins by ayurveda, at our clinic we give panchakarma therapy along with medication for varicose veins, this can be completely cured by using ayurvedic treatments for varicose veins.
