Psoriasis is a long-lasting autoimmune disease characterized by patches of abnormal skin. These skin patches are typically red, itchy, and scaly.Psoriasis varies in severity from small, localized patches to complete body coverage. Injury to the skin can trigger psoriatic skin changes at that spot, which is known as the Koebner phenomenon. There are five main types of psoriasis: plaque,  guttate,  inverse, pustular, and erythrodermic.Plaque psoriasis, also known as psoriasis vulgaris, makes up about 90 percent of cases. It typically presents as red patches with white scales on top.Areas of the body most commonly affected are the back of the forearms, shins, navel area, and scalp.Guttate psoriasis has drop-shaped lesions.Pustular psoriasis presents as small non-infectious pus-filled blisters.Inverse psoriasis forms red patches in skin folds.Erythrodermic psoriasis occurs when the rash becomes very widespread, and can develop from any of the other types.Fingernails and toenails are affected in most people with psoriasis at some point in time. Psoriasis is generally thought to be a genetic disease that is triggered by environmental factors.genetic factors predispose to psoriasis.Infections and psychological stress can also play a role.Psoriasis is not contagious. The underlying mechanism involves the immune system reacting to skin cells.According to ayurveda psoriasis has many causative factors like unhealthy diet, stree, heredity etc. Acharya charaka told in charaka samhita about various causative factors along with external factors responsible for psoriasis.at akshay arogyam we give best ayurvedic treatments for psoriasis by using our self prepared in house herbal medications.
SKIN ALLERGY Irritated skin can be caused by a variety of factors. These include immune system disorders, medications and infections. When an allergen is responsible for triggering an immune system response, then it is an allergic skin condition. Atopic Dermatitis (Eczema) Eczema is the most common skin condition, especially in children. It affects one in five infants but only around one in fifty adults. It is now thought to be due to “leakiness” of the skin barrier, which causes it to dry out and become prone to irritation and inflammation by many environmental factors. Also, some people with eczema have a food sensitivity which can make eczema symptoms worse. In about half of patients with severe atopic dermatitis, the disease is due to inheritance of a faulty gene in their skin called filaggrin. Unlike with urticaria (hives), the itch of eczema is not only caused by histamine so anti-histamines may not control the symptoms. Eczema is often linked with asthma,  allergic rhinitis (hay fever) or food allergy. This order of progression is called the atopic march. Allergic Contact Dermatitis Allergic contact dermatitis occurs when your skin comes in direct contact with an allergen. For instance, if you have a nickel allergy and your skin comes in contact with jewelry made with even a very small amount of nickel, you may develop red, bumpy, scaly, itchy or swollen skin at the point of contact. Coming in contact with poison ivy, poison oak and poison sumac can also cause allergic contact dermatitis. The red, itchy rash is caused by an oily coating covering these plants. The allergic reaction can come from actually touching them, or by touching clothing, pets or even gardening tools that have come in contact with the oil. Urticaria (Hives) Hives are an inflammation of the skin triggered when the immune system releases histamine. This causes small blood vessels to leak, which leads to swelling in the skin. Swelling in deep layers of the skin is called angioedema. There are two kinds of urticaria, acute and chronic. Acute urticaria occurs at times after eating a particular food or coming in contact with a particular trigger. It can also be triggered by non-allergic causes such as heat or exercise, as well as medications, foods, insect bites or infections. Chronic urticaria is rarely caused by specific triggers and so allergy tests are usually not helpful. Chronic urticaria can last for many months or years. Although they are often uncomfortable and sometimes painful, hives are not contagious. Angioedema Angioedema is swelling in the deep layers of the skin. It is often seen together with urticaria (hives). Angioedema many times occurs in soft tissues such as the eyelids, mouth or genitals. Angioedema is called "acute" if the condition lasts only a short time such as minutes to hours. Acute angioedema is commonly caused by an allergic reaction to medications or foods. Chronic recurrent angioedema is when the condition returns over a long period of time. It typically does not have an identifiable cause. ALLERGY IN AYURVEDA According to ayurveda allergy is nothing but intolerance or decresed skin immunity, in ayurveda allergy comes from external factor but it can affect one of the individual only if it's overall dosha's are imbalanced, for skin allergy full body detoxification or dosha balance is very important factor and we can achieve it primarily by doing ayurvedic panchakarma therapy, along with ayurvedic medicines described in the ancient literature. At akshay arogyam we treat skin Allergies by scientifically proven ayurvedic treatments for skin developed and described in the charaka samhita and astanag hridayam.
Ayurveda & Arthritis. The ancient Ayurvedic texts describe two basic types of arthritis that correspond with osteoarthritis (Sandhigat Vata) and rheumatoid arthritis (Ama Vat). It is important to remember when considering any disease from an Ayurvedic perspective, that it is not just the disease that is treated, it is the person. Every person is treated as a unique case, and many variables are taken into account to ensure that a treatment program is specifically tailored for them as an individual. Having said that, lets take a look at the disease states of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis from an Ayurvedic perspective. In Ayurveda, osteoarthritis is considered a disease of malnutrition that tends to affect vulnerable joints (due to previous injury or infection, congenital reasons, etc). However, as with all disease, to find the root cause of osteoarthritis, we first must look at the processes of digestion, or Agni. When Agni (the ‘digestive fire’ ) is not working properly, wastes or toxins known as Ama are produced instead of useful nutrients for the tissues. These toxins accumulate in the gut and at the same time, Vata (Air/Ether) accumulates in the colon. Causes of Vata aggravation include: Eating excessively cold, dry, rough, bitter, astringent or pungent foods (including an excess of raw foods) Irregular schedules or meal times Excessive traveling Constant multitasking and rushing around High stress or high anxiety jobs or situations Lack of sound sleep Excessively cold or dry environments A physically or mentally traumatic event Extreme grief, change or shock Taking drugs Excessive stimulation and movement Aggravated Vata, along with Ama (toxins), move from the gut into the channels of circulation, find places in the body that are weak or vulnerable (in this case the joints) and settle in. The qualities of Vata, and this particular type of Ama, have a catabolic/drying effect that causes deterioration of the soft tissues in the joints and eventually the bones. At the same time, Ama can block the channels, supplying nutrients to the joints causing further malnutrition. The deterioration and subsequent irritation in the joint causes inflammation, stiffness, swelling and pain. In Ayurveda, rheumatoid arthritis is seen as a disease of toxic accumulation and immune malfunction. In the case of rheumatoid arthritis, there is a very high level of accumulated Ama (hence the name), and in many cases, a considerable amount of excess heat (or Pitta). This Ama, combined with aggravated Vata and Pitta moves into the channels of the body and begins to affect Ojas (the vital essence of the tissues and the body-mind’s strength and immunity). This causes Ojas to become depleted and its qualities are changed. At the same time Ama blocks the channels and prevents the production of Ojas, depleting it further. This is the basis of autoimmune-disease. Ojas begins to function incorrectly and, along with Ama, causes the inflammatory responses, swelling and pain that we recognize as rheumatoid arthritis. Causes of Pitta aggravation include: Eating excessively heating, fried, stimulating, pungent, sour or salty foods and drinks (including red meat, fermented foods, alcohol, coffee, chilli, acidic foods) Exposure to excessively hot or humid environments Not eating when hungry Living with highly irritating situations Excessively heating exercise Excessively hot showers Excessive exposure to anger Violence, conflict and highly competitive situations Things that deplete Ojas: Excessive sexual activity Overwork Stress Physical trauma (such as a severe car accident) Psychological trauma (such as excessive stress or intense grief) Vigorous exercise beyond your capacity Things that deplete Ojas : Excessive sexual activity Overwork Stress Physical trauma (such as a severe car accident) Psychological trauma (such as excessive stress or intense grief) Vigorous exercise beyond your capacity Ayurvedic Arthritis Treatment : This is where Ayurvedic arthritis treatment and Western Medicine protocol differ dramatically. If the condition is particularly chronic or severe, Ayurvedic arthritis treatments can greatly reduce its debilitating effects or help prevent it from getting any worse. If it’s nature is medium-level chronic, Ayurveda can help to reverse the disease process, leading to a state of remission. In many cases, Ayurveda can actually offer a cure. Because the disease process is very well understood, Ayurvedic arthritis treatments can be applied that effect change at the root cause of the disease. In both cases of arthritis, strengthening Agni and removing Ama is the immediate concern. Without this, any other treatment will be of little effect. This is achieved by following a special diet that allows the Agni to become stronger and the body to begin eliminating excess toxins. In fact, vast improvements can be made in terms of inflammation, pain, swelling and stiffness just by diligently following the correct diet.
URTICARIA OR HIVES Hives (urticaria) are red, itchy welts that result from a skin reaction. The welts vary in size and appear and fade repeatedly as the reaction runs its course. The condition is considered chronic hives if the welts appear for more than six weeks and recur frequently over months or years. Often, the cause of chronic hives is not clear. Chronic hives can be very uncomfortable and interfere with sleep and daily activities. For many people, antihistamines and anti-itch medications provide relief. Symptoms Signs and symptoms of chronic hives include: ~Batches of red or skin-colored welts (wheals), which can appear anywhere on the body ~Welts that vary in size, change shape, and appear and fade repeatedly as the reaction runs its course ~Itching, which may be severe ~Painful swelling (angioedema) of the lips, eyelids and inside the Throat ~A tendency for signs and symptoms to flare with triggers such as heat, exercise and stress ~A tendency for signs and symptoms to persist for more than six weeks and to recur frequently and unpredictably, sometimes for months or years. In ayurveda Urticaria or hives are called as Shita-Pitta, the causative factors are imbalances in kapha and pitta dosha, Aamvisha sanchiti in body tissues, increased blood toxins etc. Ayurvedic treatment for Urticaria or hives include virechan treatment followed by medicines.medicines used are mostly pitta and kapha balancing in nature. At our akshay arogyam ayurvedic clinic we treat urticaria within very less amount of time with self prepared herbal medicine and our own designed panchakarma therapy.
Jaundice and Ayurveda Jaundice is a condition where the skin and the whites of the eyes changes to yellow color. Allopathy does not consider it to be a disease but a symptom of liver disorders like liver infection, gallstones and cirrhosis of liver. In Ayurveda, Jaundice is known as Kamala. Causes Increased intake of oily, spicy, sour, salty, alkaline, alcohol, and sesame oil cause Pitta aggravation. The aggravated Pitta then impairs the blood and the muscle tissue of the liver, causing blockage in the channels of the liver and thus Pitta (in the form of bile) is thrown back into the blood leading to discoloration of the eyes and skin. Sleeping in the daytime, excessive physical work, overindulgence in sexual activity, suppressing the natural urges of the body, and psychological factors like lust, fear, anger, and stress can also be causative factors in cases of Jaundice. Symptoms : Drowsiness Weakness Fatigue Yellowish discoloration of the eyes, skin and nail Flatulence Lack of appetite Burning sensation in the body Low-grade fever Indigestion Excessive thirst Loss of libido Ayurvedic Jaundice Treatment Ayurvedic treatment of Jaundice involves balance in body dosha and restoring the function of the liver and increase the flow of bile in the bile duct, by using ayurvedic panchakarma and ayurvedic herbal medicines. Digestion is also restored with the help of a customised diet plan to ensure good metabolism.
Lichen planus and ayurveda This condition is considered as a variety of Kushta(skin disease) resulted from dooshi visha or accumulated toxins. Regular exposure to unwholesome food, activities, chemicals and other toxins gradually affect proper functioning of digestive fire or Agni. Result of impaired digestion is the production of Ama or partly digested food. This achieves toxic nature and accumulates in the body. Toxic Ama is absorbed and transported through subtle channels of body or Srothas. After getting accumulated in some part of the body it manifest in to symptoms when favorable factors are available. Toxins get covering by Kapha and thus it can resist from body mechanisms of digestion or excretion. In the case of lichen planus , Ama get deposited in the skin or mucous membrane .Gradually this affect Vatha, Pitha and Kapha components of skin and gradually manifest in to symptoms. Even though all the three Doshas involve in the pathogenesis, Pitha and Kapha dominate in Lichen planus. Due to the treatments or other factors, this disease may subside for some time. Practice of unwholesome food, activities etc will again trigger pathogenesis and finally resulting in the new episode of the disease. Ayurvedic management Treatment mainly aims purification of the body, achieving healthy digestive fire, cure of symptoms remaining and rejuvenation of body. 1. To detoxify the system by Sodhana or Panchakarma procedures. After assessing signs and symptoms, health and digestive power of the patient either Vamana (medicated vomiting) or Virechana (medicated purgation) or both may be given. Selection of formulation for both the procedures is made only after careful evaluation. Ayurveda suggest oral administration of medicated ghee or oil only in certain skin diseases before purification procedures .Sweating also is not required in most of the cases. 2. To correct functioning of Agni and thus to prevent further generation of Ama . Progress of the disease and the purification procedures weakens Agni or digestive fire. Gradual use of light to digest food along with medicines will be required to regain normal power of Agni. 3. To pacify the symptoms (Samana oushadhas or medicines of alleviation) Gargling (Kabala) or washing (dhara) with suitable herbal decoction is useful in appropriate conditions. Internal administration of herbal decoctions, pills, arishtas (preparations with self-generated alcohol), and medicines for external application are also used here. 4. Rasayana or Rejuvenating medicines After all treatment procedures, body tissues or dhatus require rejuvenation. Rejuvenating medicines specifically useful to skin is used here. These medicines provide strong immunity power to prevent further vitiation of Dosha and dhatus and maintain health.
Varicose veins are gnarled, enlarged veins. Any vein may become varicose, but the veins most commonly affected are those in your legs and feet. That's because standing and walking upright increases the pressure in the veins of your lower body. For many people, varicose veins and spider veins — a common, mild variation of varicose veins — are simply a cosmetic concern. For other people, varicose veins can cause aching pain and discomfort. Sometimes varicose veins lead to more-serious problems. Varicose veins may also signal a higher risk of other circulatory problems. Treatment may involve self-care measures or procedures by your doctor to close or remove veins. According to ayurveda varicose veins are caused due to Rakta dhatu dusti, so raktamokshana is the main line of treatment in treating varicose veins by ayurveda, at our clinic we give panchakarma therapy along with medication for varicose veins, this can be completely cured by using ayurvedic treatments for varicose veins.
Today’s hectic lifestyle, which results in improper diet, producing waste materials not beneficial to the body. They are not properly excreted through the body, resulting in the hazardous accumulation. These can evolve into serious specific diseases, ultimately damaging an individual’s health and wellness. The ancient Indian science of ayurveda mentions certain procedures which help in preventing diseases’rather than curing a person after the diseases have occurred. Panchkarma is a group of five procedures which help to remove the waste material from the body, helping in the elimination of the root cause and resulting in quick control over the diseases. It is a unique, natural, holistic, health-giving series of therapeutic treatments that cleanse the body’s deep tissues of toxins, open the subtle channels, bring life-enhancing energy thereby increasing vitality, inner peace, confidence and well-being. Shodhana treatment aims at removal of the causative factors of somatic and psychosomatic diseases. The process involves internal and external purification.Shodhana therapies expel the aggravated doshas from the body. Panchakarma treatment focuses on metabolic management. It provides needed purificatory effect, besides conferring therapeutic benefits. This treatment is especially helpful in neurological disorders, musculo-skeletal disease conditions, certain vascular or neuro-vascular states, respiratory diseases, metabolic and degenerative disorders. Branches of Panchkarma: Vamana – emetic therapy (supervised vomiting), Virechana – laxatives, Vasti – herbal enema, * Nasya – nasal administration, Rakta Mokshana – blood letting. Pre-Panchakarma procedures (external and internal oleation and induced sweating) .As the dosha are located in remote areas of the body, generally there is no direct outlet for their elimination. Therefore, some preparatory treatments are first induced in order to soften the dosha and move it to either the stomach or the intestine from where the dosha is eliminated using the above-mentioned techniques. The Panchakarma therapeutic process appears quite simple in its application. However, its effects are powerful and effective.
